Stress and anxiety management

If you experience :

  • Shallow breathing
  • Tension in the chest
  • Tremors
  • Inability to fall or stay asleep
  • The mental fog
  • Emotional outbursts
  • Feelings of butterflies in the stomach
  • An obsessive fear
  • Avoidance of previously enjoyable activities

Your nervous system has been overactive for far too long!

Anxiety is associated with a particular point of view that leads us to overestimate the danger and underestimate our abilities.

In addition to this, the following can be added:

  • General anxiety disorders
  • Panic attacks with or without agoraphobia
  • Agoraphobia without a history of panic attacks
  • A specific phobia
  • A social anxiety disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress
  • Chronic stress

The nervous system remembers moments of intense stress.
It doesn't know (or care) how much time has passed.
It will continue to be overactive until we learn to regulate and calm it down."

Sarah Dergins, MSW

Anxiety is not just the inability to calm down:

It is also:

  • Overthinking
  • Being hyper-sensitive
  • Fear of failure
  • The difficulty of saying 'no
  • Making others happy
  • Inability to slow down (workaholism)
  • Excessive exercise
  • Prioritise work over personal life
  • Perfectionism
  • Working on little sleep
  • Restrict feeding, undernourishment

All these behaviours are socially accepted and rewarded responses to trauma...

The "Overcome" method

The Overcome method is taught in hospitals, detention centres and welfare centres in the United States. It consists of anchoring, breathing and reprogramming techniques.

Anchoring: Anchoring with the help of the breath, mudras (hand positions) and postures is a sure way to self-regulate and change your energy very quickly. Whether you are tired, depressed, stressed or anxious, these techniques allow you to quickly feel a sense of well-being and to regain control of yourself. You start again on a new basis and manage the ups and downs of your life more easily.

Breathing: Learning targeted breathing techniques (pranayama), counteract and immediately calm a high stress or panic attack. You engage the brake of your nervous system which allows you to slow down, calm down and feel safe.

Reprogramming: The Overcome method helps you to reprogram your brain so that you are no longer subject to the vagaries of situations or events that trigger anxiety, panic attacks and other isolating behaviours.

The "Overcome" method includes:
